American Fidelity is known for our top notch training and development programs that we offer to Colleagues. We have been recognized on Training Magazine’s Top 125 list for nine consecutive years.

So, why does AFA take training and development so seriously? I sat down with our talent management team leader, David McLaughlin, to find out.

“With nearly 50 percent of our positions being filled internally, it’s imperative that we provide learning and career development opportunities to our Colleagues to keep the Company moving forward,” said David. “Our training programs are vital for our continuing success.”

AFA offers a variety of opportunities for our Colleagues to continue learning throughout their careers. One of the newer opportunities we are excited about is through our partnership with Oklahoma City Community College.   Our Degree at Work program allows Colleagues to finish their degree onsite and basic courses such as English and math are provided free to Colleagues. So far more than 40 Colleagues have taken advantage of the program.  Other classes within the program qualify for our tuition reimbursement program.

Check out this list of impressive stats that David gave me.

  • Our Colleagues average 9.42 hours of training a year.
  • We have paid tuition reimbursement to more than 140 Colleagues since the program began in 2004.
  • The AFA mentoring program was developed in 2005 and has had almost 200 participants.
  • To stay on top of the game, our field Colleagues participate in continuing education each year. In 2012 they completed a total of 14,184 hours!

Apply for your chance to join American Fidelity and take advantage of the great training resources. Have a question about our training programs or want to share how your company trains employees? Let us know in the comments!
