This week I had the privilege of helping to recognize about two dozen of our Colleagues who have been recognized by their peers for providing excellent Customer service. The whole Company celebrated Customer Service Week, and these Colleagues represent the best of the best.

We invited the top achievers to lunch with Company President Dave Carpenter, and he thanked the group for their efforts on behalf of American Fidelity. Dave encouraged the Colleagues to continue their dedication to service.

The celebration also marked the end of the first year of our revamped Colleague recognition program: High 5!

Colleagues can nominate each other for a kudo if they appreciate a one-time action, or they can nominate fellow Colleagues for a 5 AF Recognition for consistently demonstrating our core values and living our brand. Since its debut, more than 800 nominations have been received to recognize 425 individual Colleagues.

This week, we honored the Colleagues who received the most acclaim during the past year. Lorrie Gates and Ginger Rice were the Gold Star achievers, and each received more than 10 nominations.

We also saluted Silver Star achievers, and presented honorable mention awards to Colleagues representing departments throughout the Company.

What types of recognition do you receive, and what types of recognition are most meaningful to you?

Here's to Toastmasters!

An underlying theme at American Fidelity is continuous improvement. Whether through our Lean initiative or through a multitude of training opportunities, AFA encourages Colleagues to learn and grow in their careers.  Like many Americans, one of my biggest fears is speaking in front of people. Thankfully, I found a safe place to practice this skill in AFA’s Toastmasters group. Toastmasters is an internationally recognized organization that provides public speaking and leadership training. Now, over lunch once a week, I learn about and practice skills such as meeting management, impromptu speaking and presenting, and receive instant feedback from my Colleagues. As an added benefit, AFA pays my club dues if I attend 50 percent of the meetings. Watch this short video to learn more about how Toastmasters helped some of my Colleagues grow professionally and personally. Toastmasters provides me with a great development opportunity. In what types of professional training do you like to participate? &
