Day in the Life: Benefits Adjusters

October 6, 2016 08:23 AM

Samara F., Benefits AdjusterSamara F., Benefits Adjuster

Paying benefits claims is the heart and soul of what we do here at American Fidelity. Our Benefits team helps make that happen by processing claims and determining eligibility according to policies, rules and regulations. We’re always on the look for benefits adjusters to join our team to better serve our Customers. Learn more about these positions below and apply today!

“I love my job because I get to help people directly every day. You see that you’re making a difference in someone’s life by getting them the money they need to take care of expenses while they’re disabled,” shared Samara Fields, disability benefits adjuster. “Even though I’ve been doing this for more than two years, no two days are the same and I approach each claim with sensitivity.”

The Benefits team as a whole consists of three main groups: the Customer Service Unit that handles general calls and sends information to the adjusters; the Disability Insurance adjusters, who handle short- and long-term disability claims; and the Supplemental Medical adjusters, who handle accident and cancer claims.

“As a disability adjuster, each day I pull claims, review the information, contact medical providers and talk to Customers. With longer term claims, we call the Customer frequently to keep them up to date on the process,” said Samara. “We try to anticipate problems and fix them where possible so that there is no delay in a payment – we know our Customers are counting on us and what we do directly impacts their lives.”

Due to the nature of our business, Customers often contact us when they are dealing with medical issues and are worried about finances and we do what we can to help give them peace of mind.

“For someone to succeed as a benefits adjuster, they need to be able to really care about Customers and not view this as just a job. They also need to be diplomatic and understanding of what the Customer is going through,” said Samara. “You also need strong analytical skills to be able to read contracts and interpret how they apply to each claim because every claim is different.”

If that sounds like a good fit for you, make sure to apply for our benefits adjuster job openings in OKC today - just select the Benefits category to see all the openings. Disability Insurance Awareness Month Is Happening Now!

May 2, 2016 11:07 AM

May is Disability Insurance Awareness month, a time designated for us to reflect upon the important role Disability Insurance plays for our Customers, Colleagues and Company.

Did you know that according to the Council for Disability Awareness, more than 25 percent of American workers will at some point miss three months or more of work due to an injury or disability? Did you also know that more than three fourths of workers claim they could not pay their bills for more than a year without income?

Statistics like these can be alarming but are a good reminder about the importance disability insurance plays in protecting your income.

American Fidelity’s founders, C.W. and C.B. Cameron based our Company on a fundamental belief: The most important asset anyone has is their ability to work and earn a living. As part of this belief, our Colleagues automatically receive disability insurance as part of our standard benefits package.

If your paycheck suddenly vanished due to an illness or injury that prevented you from working, how long would you be able to buy groceries or pay your monthly bills before feeling the pinch? Probably not very long. That‘s why disability insurance is such an important part of a solid financial plan.

Learn more about disability insurance from the Council for Disability Awareness (CDA) Defend Your Income website.

Have you or a loved one had to use disability income insurance – or wish you had? Let us know in the comments!

American Fidelity’s Mobile Workforce

January 6, 2016 02:15 AM

InformationWeek We put a strong emphasis on being future oriented at American Fidelity and as such, we’re constantly looking for ways to improve our way of doing business. Part of this stance means embracing new technological advances that better serve our Customers and our Colleagues and one of the biggest initiatives in this direction is our Mobile Workforce. Mobile Workforce is a work from home program that gives AF Colleagues the flexibility to serve Customers both from home and different places throughout the workplace. Our Colleagues are no longer tied to just one desk and one phone! Telecommuting gives us the flexibility to deal with issues like inclement weather while giving our Colleagues’ work/life balance a major boost. “I love the reduction in my commute and gas bill, and it definitely improves the balancing act with home and work,” said Heather Webb, benefits adjuster. “I am able to spend the time I would be commuting with my husband and dogs or getting things done around the house.” Managers at American Fidelity are also reaping the benefits of a mobile workforce. “Mobile Workforce has been a win-win for both the Colleague and the Company,” says Gary Akers, vice president of benefits. “We have taken proactive steps to plan for inclement weather in advance by offering Colleagues the option of working from home on days when the Colleague is scheduled to work in the office and there is a potential for inclement weather. This allows the Colleague to work without traveling in hazardous road conditions, and it allows us to better serve our Customers.” Interested in working somewhere with a great sense of work/life balance?
