Over the last five decades, American Fidelity has been blessed with great leadership. Perhaps best known in the community is John Rex. John worked with American Fidelity for 35 years before his death in 2006. During that time, he left his mark not only on the Company and our Colleagues, but on the entire Oklahoma City community. This fall another piece of his legacy will fall into the place. The John Rex Elementary Charter School will open in downtown Oklahoma City to provide exceptional educational opportunities for children who live in the area or whose parents work downtown. John was known for serving the community, and his passion was education. It’s only fitting that this unique school be named in his memory. As a champion of education, he worked tirelessly to help improve educational opportunities for all children in Oklahoma. “Do right and you’ll never go wrong.” Most people who knew John heard him say that at least once. His need to “do right” led him to work with the United Way, Chamber of Commerce and many others to improve the quality of life in Oklahoma City. He would have been proud that the school to open in downtown Oklahoma City is named in his memory. A community forum to discuss the school is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 21 at the downtown library.
