Disability Insurance Awareness Month Is Happening Now!

May 2, 2016 11:07 AM

May is Disability Insurance Awareness month, a time designated for us to reflect upon the important role Disability Insurance plays for our Customers, Colleagues and Company.

Did you know that according to the Council for Disability Awareness, more than 25 percent of American workers will at some point miss three months or more of work due to an injury or disability? Did you also know that more than three fourths of workers claim they could not pay their bills for more than a year without income?

Statistics like these can be alarming but are a good reminder about the importance disability insurance plays in protecting your income.

American Fidelity’s founders, C.W. and C.B. Cameron based our Company on a fundamental belief: The most important asset anyone has is their ability to work and earn a living. As part of this belief, our Colleagues automatically receive disability insurance as part of our standard benefits package.

If your paycheck suddenly vanished due to an illness or injury that prevented you from working, how long would you be able to buy groceries or pay your monthly bills before feeling the pinch? Probably not very long. That‘s why disability insurance is such an important part of a solid financial plan.

May 1, 2015 10:53 AM
We together Did you know that May is Disability Insurance Awareness Month? It may not sound like the most exciting holiday, but this is actually a very important time for us here at American Fidelity. As a Company focused on helping  those in need, AFA provides Disability Insurance to thousands of Customers and our Colleagues to help them protect their income. American Fidelity’s founders, C.W. and C.B. Cameron based our Company on a fundamental belief: The most important asset anyone has is their ability to work and earn a living. As part of this belief, our Colleagues automatically receive disability insurance as part of our standard benefits package. For many people, income earned at their daily job is the only form of financial support available. How long could you go if your paychecks suddenly stopped because of an injury or illness? It wouldn’t take long for many people to feel strained, and even a short rough patch in someone’s health can seriously complicate their financial security for years to come. Did you know just over 1 in 4 of today's 20 year-olds will become disabled before they retire1? We’re doing our part this month to bring awareness and insight to the importance of keeping your financial security protected. Are you? If you’re interested in learning more about disability insurance, including more statistics about how many people are affected by income-debilitating disabilities, make sure to check out the Council for Disability Awareness’s website. What protections do you have in place in case of a life altering illness or accident? Do you know what income sources are available to you should you become disabled? 1 U.S. Social Security Administration, Fact Sheet February 7, 2013
