One of the things I like most about working at American Fidelity is all of the available training and opportunities to grow. AFA has its own Toastmasters club, the Classen Communicators. Toastmasters gives members a supportive environment to develop their public speaking skills. It also teaches the ability to think quickly by engaging in impromptu sessions, provides opportunities for networking and teaches members how to properly run meetings. This week our Classen Communicators are participating in two Toastmasters Speech Contests. There will be an international speech contest and a table topics contest. The speeches will be judged and the winners move on to compete in the area contest. I asked Paula Liotine, SQM Team Leader and Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), how she feels about the program. “Classen Communicators has provided me a fun and safe environment to learn and practice leadership and communication skills,” said Paula. “It’s a great place to learn how to give and receive feedback, be a mentor, run a meeting, think on your feet and of course communicate clearly and effectively. Over the last ten years in Toastmasters, I have gained the confidence to speak up or remain silent in any situation.” What training opportunities would you like to have at work? Let us know in the comments!
