Who doesn’t love the smell of a new box of crayons? Or the satisfying feeling of filling a new binder with fresh notebook paper? Each summer, I enjoy taking the kids shopping for new school supplies. We check out the new gadgets, get a look at the folder designs – puppies, kittens and the latest pop music sensations – and spend a small fortune on items they believe they “must” have for the school year. But many of our neighbors in the Oklahoma City school system can’t afford the extra cost of school supplies. So, each year American Fidelity hosts a school supply drive to benefit our partner school, Buchanan Elementary. This week, our Colleagues are donating paper, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, folders and other basic supplies, along with cash to help the school get what is needed. Our efforts ensure kids at Buchanan can also experience the joys having brand-new supplies on the first day of school. We expect to deliver boxes of supplies – along with monetary donations – to the school in July. That way, Buchanan students will be stocked and ready to go when school resumes on Aug. 4. What were your favorite school supplies?
