Millennials, why work at a boring insurance company?

Gradle_Leilani Have you ever thought working for an insurance company would make for a boring job? Our Company president, Dave Carpenter, recognizes this stereotype and responded with reasons why you should want to work at American Fidelity, but I wanted to see what a newer Colleague thought about it. So, I asked one of our young Colleagues to tell us why she likes working at American Fidelity and why you should consider it. Check out her response below. I’ll tell you right now, when I first heard about the opportunity to intern at American Fidelity and realized it was an insurance company, I was not exactly thrilled. Aside from seeing and hearing people try to sell it, I knew nothing about insurance and the topic didn’t seem interesting. But, I put that behind me and decided to take a chance, and I’m so glad I did! Sure American Fidelity has great things like the 401(k); pension plan; time off and health benefits, but those are just a few of the things that make this a great place to work. I have two favorite things about working at AFA: 1) the people and 2) the opportunities. Everyone at AFA has made me feel welcome, part of the team and like my opinions and work truly matters. Every day people are happy to see me and they always make an effort to keep me involved, whether that’s in daily work or sometimes socializing outside of AFA. I think I’m a great example of the opportunities that AFA provides. I started as an intern, and was able to work on real-world projects that showed my skills and work ethic. I gave it my best effort each day, and at the end of my internship I was offered a full-time position in the Corporate Communications department. American Fidelity is a place that allows you to find your position. If you want a certain job, AFA provides all the tools and opportunities for you to work toward it! Working at American Fidelity continues to be a great experience for me. I have a great team to work with every day, am able to exercise over my lunch break in the onsite fitness center, get my weekly allergy injections at our onsite medical clinic and so much more.
