In 2006, American Fidelity lost an instrumental leader in our Company’s philanthropic and community efforts. John Rex was especially passionate about ensuring all children had access to high-quality education. We felt it was appropriate to establish a scholarship in his honor. Since 2007, two children of Colleagues have been awarded the renewable scholarships each year. Last week, the 2015 recipients were named, and their parents were presented with certificates in surprise celebrations. Chasiti’s daughter, Jordan, earned one, while Barry’s daughter, Gracie, earned the other. Gracie is the second of Barry’s daughters to earn the award. The scholarships are worth $2,000 each year, and are renewable for three additional years as long as the student maintains a set grade point average and remains in school. Winners’ parents must be full-time Colleagues at American Fidelity with at least two years of tenure. The students must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in an accredited undergraduate degree program. One former John Rex scholar is now a teacher in the downtown Oklahoma City charter school that bears his name. Another served as an intern at American Fidelity one summer while she was attending college. The scholarship has been awarded to 18 students since its inception. We believe John Rex would be proud of how the program is helping the next generation afford a college education. What programs does your company have in place to honor past leaders?
