The first in-person job interview is your chance to make that lasting first impression and dressing for success plays a large role. When you’re preparing for an interview do you get stressed out about what you are going to wear? No need to worry because I’ve got some great tips on deciding what you should wear for the interview.
- Do your research! If you’re interviewing for a job at a more casual environment, like a store or restaurant, your attire may be different than if you’re interviewing for a professional position.
- If you think you’re attire might be a little too dressy, just go with it. It’s better to be over dressed than under dressed.
- Don’t forget about color. The right colors can help the interviewer learn more about your personality and how you will fit in with the company culture.
- Try not to be remembered for your attire, but be yourself. In other words, choose solids over patterns and neutrals over bright colors. You can still show your personality through a few accessories, or better yet through your actual interview!
For women there are lots of great options. A pair of classic black slacks coupled with a button-down blazer gives a formal, put together look. A pencil skirt is another choice many women go to when interviewing for a professional position. For men a nice suit is always a good go to option. If you’re going for a business casual look, a pair of dress slacks with a sport blazer might be your choice. The most important thing to remember when dressing for an interview is no matter what the position, you should always show up clean, well rested, well dressed and ready to impress.
