Getting Ready for Vacation

June 30, 2014 02:45 AM
vaca School’s out for summer and, like many Americans, I’m hitting the road. American Fidelity knows how important it is to spend time with your family, so they offer Colleagues great discount tickets and plenty of time off. Before I leave for my trip – I’m so excited! – I thought I would share some simple tips I found at www.workingmother.com  to prepare for my time away from the office. Request Time Off and Notify Your Team Before you plan your vacation, check with your supervisor to see if there are any company meetings or events during your proposed timeframe, or if any of your Colleagues have already requested time off. Once you have the all clear to take your vacation, tell your team, so you can make arrangements to cover your tasks in your absence. Make Checklists What projects have to get done before you leave for vacation?  What projects and ongoing tasks do you need to remember to do upon your return?  Take the time to write down those tasks you absolutely have to finish before you walk out of the door. Yes, finishing all of these tasks may take a little extra time, but they will be completed and off of your worry list. The first day back in the office is often difficult, so you will be happy to already have your daily to do list finished. Be Semi-Available and Set Alerts Provide your supervisor with your contact information for use in emergencies only.  Set your out-of-office email and voicemail alerts. Be sure to check with your team to see to whom you should refer people while you are away. Tidy Up and Plan Ahead Before you set out to relax and enjoy your time away from the office, clean your desk. Try not to schedule any meetings for your first day back in the office. When you return, your organized space, clear calendar and simple to do list will help your recharged self ease back into the working world. Are you taking a vacation this summer? What are you doing to prepare? &
