I recently interviewed Lindsey Sparks, senior PR specialist, about a typical day in the life of American Fidelity’s Corporate Communications team members.
“In our area, there really isn’t a typical day. For example, this week alone I’ve worked on a press release, edited a product brochure, assisted with social media, met with our Benefits team about our wellness programs communications and created a plan for them, written stories for our management newsletter, assisted with planning our team’s transition to Microsoft SharePoint and helped with our Bring Your Kids to Work day event – I even blew up alien balloons!I love having so much variety in my job and working with different areas around AFA.”
The Corporate Communications area is responsible for handling internal communications with our Colleagues, such as benefits enrollment, new software systems, learning opportunities and organizational news. They also help coordinate crisis communications and community relations, including AFA’s recent tornado relief efforts.
They manage external communications such as media relations, social media, corporate branding and advertising. The team also handles Colleagues relations by providing tickets and discounts to Colleagues planning fun events and developing perks such as onsite massages, car washes and farmers’ markets.
