Yellow caution lights are flashing in school zones throughout Oklahoma City, and soon many other districts will follow suit. And while the kids are heading back to the classroom, about 40 American Fidelity Colleagues soon will be heading to our partner school, Buchanan Elementary, to tutor kids who need a little extra one-on-one attention. One of our new Colleagues signed up for the tutoring program this year. “You have no idea what it means to me to be part of an organization that supports things like this,” she said. “I started at AFA in June, and I am so happy to be here.” A number of Colleagues have been tutoring since we began working with Buchanan in the 2006-2007 school year. They look forward to returning each year, and tutors generally get to work with the same students throughout their time at Buchanan. Our tutors work with students to complete outstanding homework or classwork assignments. Some simply need help with reading. Others just need to know that someone cares about them. Last year, we talked about the benefits Colleagues get from tutoring, and we still love to see the smiles on our students’ faces when we meet them in the hallways. Tutoring is just one of the many ways American Fidelity is involved with Buchanan Elementary. In June, our Colleagues donated school supplies to the school to ensure students will have what they need in the classroom. We have purchased spelling workbooks and playground equipment. One year, we helped the students go on a field trip. We try to find ways to meet whatever needs our partner school has. It’s a joy to work for a Company that places such a high value on helping the schools in our community! What corporate volunteer programs are important to you?
