The Flexibility to Succeed
During his keynote at the recent Great Place to Work Institute® Conference, Stanford Graduate School of Business professor Jeffrey Pfeffer shared that “great workplaces impact health by reducing the factors that create adverse incidents – control, community, work/life balance.”
American Fidelity strives to be the best place our Colleagues have ever worked. AFA gives us the freedom we need to best serve our Customers. Colleagues are encouraged to take control of our health by providing a great on-site fitness center and a fabulous wellness incentive, which helps me stay on top of my cholesterol level, my blood sugar and my blood pressure, among other things, and allows me to earn extra money for my Health Savings Account (HSA). AFA also lets me have a say in where some of the Company’s charitable contributions go and allows me time to volunteer with my fellow Colleagues to support local nonprofits. Pretty great, huh?
Though these factors all contribute to making AFA a great workplace, my favorite aspect of our culture is the flexibility Colleagues have with their work schedules. For the first time in my professional career I have true work/life balance. Right after I started my job, I met with my supervisor to determine a work schedule that allows me to get my job done but also gives me the time I need to be with my family. Several Colleagues in my division even telecommute at least one day a week!
How would you describe your ideal workplace?
